By looking at this modular bed design concept designed by Swedish designer Marcia Hanvey Isaksson, I can say that a bed like this should exist in every hotel. The design is basically a double bed that lets you instantly split it into two single beds without having to spend your back for it. Each single bed is attached at the head with a rail in the headboard, so if you want a double bed for you an your partnet or to have more space in your bed just slide the beds apart. Since the headboard also features storage space, this modular bed becomes just the perfect bit of furniture for the kids’ room or even for the guests. - Via - 1, 2

If you are looking for really something different, this might be it. Atkins has won an international competition to design a five-star resort hotel set within a beautiful 100 meter deep quarry in the Songjiang district close to Shanghai in China. I know that from these pictures the hotel looks almost unreal, but this project is expected to be completed by May, 2009. Its stunning concept designs inspired by the natural water and landscape features of the quarry captured the imagination of judges to quash competition from two other international firms. The quarry will provide protection from the weather, and reduce the energy needs of the hotel. The complex will contain restaurants, cafes, sport facilities, and will even include underwater public areas and guestrooms.

The innovative design of the 400-bed resort hotel stands two levels higher than the rock face of the 100 metre deep quarry and includes underwater public areas and guestrooms. It will incorporate conference facilities for up to 1,000 people, a banqueting centre, restaurants, cafés and sports facilities. Sustainability is integral to the design ranging from using green roofing for the structures above the ground level to geothermal energy extraction. An aquatic theme runs through the design both visually and functionally. Two underwater levels will house a restaurant and guestrooms facing a ten-metre deep aquarium. The lowest level of the hotel will contain a leisure complex with a swimming pool and water-based sports. An extreme sports centre for activities such as rock climbing and bungee jumping will be cantilevered over the quarry and accessed by special lifts from the water level of the hotel. - Via - Greenroofs & E-Architect

For those who want to make their room an individual piece of art, here are a few examples made by 21 international artists from the fields of graphic design, urban art and illustration. These amazing rooms are from the Fox Hotel ( the former Park Hotel ), that is located in the center of Copenhagen, and I can say that these artists turned this hotel into the world’s most exciting and creative lifestyle hotel. The hotel has 61 rooms that are all completely different so choosing between a room with Art Deco inspired furnishings or a room where the walls have patterns taken straight out of a 1960s psychedelic film or a room where you spend the night in the company of Japanese Manga inspired cartoon characters may well pose a dilemma to some guests. From fantastic street art and Japanese Manga to simply spaced out fantasies, you will find flowers, fairytales, friendly monsters, dreaming creatures, secrets vaults and more… Now let’s see some amazing rooms.

The origins of Hotel Fox lie in a massive marketing event laid on by Volkswagen to promote its latest small car, the Fox, which, when it comes on the British market this summer, should retail at around £6,500. Rooms start at €120, which is cheap for Europe’s second most expensive city. And there’s a perverse attraction in a hotel that breaks all the rules of functional beauty that are central to Danish design.

Today I’ve found this post about photo wall murals and I don’t know why I found myself falling in love with them. They really seem to bring depth to the room, and from my perspective they look really good. The following pictures are from the Jupiter Hotel and I thought that are great for inspiration. You can find a lot of beautiful photo wall muralls, and they are quite affordable, under $100. Some beautiful photo wall muralls you can see here : 1, 2, 3, 4.
