Modern Renovation at 101 Russel Hill Road in Toronto

Canadian architects from gh3 have been behind the facelift of a 1970 residence located on 101 Russel Hill Road in Toronto. Originally built with large open spaces, the renovation involved a futuristic approach that converted to a more cellular room design where everything flows together. And the most striking features are the white interiors that make it look clean and sharp, and the amazing curvy staircase that adds to the home’s neutrality. With sleek lines and traditional furnishings that contrast with the white walls, the residence looks perfect for a modern family. Don’t you think?

Monaco House in Melbourne

Just on the other side of the Melbourne Club at the eastern end of the central business district, the Monaco House in Melbourne was designed by McBride Charles Ryan architects for the Honorary Consul of Monaco. Meant to make you stop by, stare for a few seconds and to intrigue, the four storeys high building has a 101 square meters footprint and all a cafe, consular activity, offices, meeting areas and a rooftop garden.

The facade looks to be a geometric game where the architects used all sorts of eye-catching surface textures to make it generously expressive. I think it stands out from all the other buildings on the street. -via KostasVoyatzis

The Hillclimber House in LA

Up until now, I was dead sure houses can’t climb, but the talented people from Kovac Architects made me reconsider my position. In the Pacific Pallisades of Los Angeles, they managed to design a house with a contour that climbs up the steep hillside. They named it (how else?) the Hillclimber House. Using lots of stone accents and wood, they managed to create a refined minimalist but modern design with classic accents. It’s “a simple hierarchy of spaces is reflected in the forms and materials used.” And did you expect to see a “between-walls” pool knowing that this house … climbs? – via Trendir

Beautiful Staircase of The Plus House

The Plus House is a pre-fab two-storey house with the generic proportions of a traditional Swedish bard house, designed by Swedish architects Claesson Koivisto Rune. Now the most interesting part of the house I think that is this beautiful and simple staircase. Now here are a few words about this project from the Swedish architects website : “Instead of windows positioned like regular “holes” along the walls, entire sides are glazed. On the entrance floor both long walls are glazed. On the upper floor the gable ends are glazed. Seen in plan, these two lines of vision straight through the building are perpendicular like a plus sign.” – Via – David Report

Tallest Skyscraper in the World

Hyder Consulting decided to amaze the whole world with a structure that will be twice as tall as the Burj Dubai, according to a consultant involved with the project making it by far the tallest tower ( skyscraper ) in the world. Considering the Burj Dubai will rise to 818m, the new tower will be over 1,600m tall, making it the world’s first mile-high tower. The architects are not sure (or at least, they’re not giving details) about where the amazing 5,250-foot-tall structure will be built – only, that it will be somewhere in the Middle East region. I don’t think that we really need something like this, but when some people want to amaze they try all kinds of outrageous things. Anyway I’m sure that the view would be amazing, but also if you stay at the “n+1″ flor you’ll spend some time just to come back to the ground. – Via – Bldgblog
