Dutch architecture firm 8A built a remarkable stairway and couch fusion for a ‘pied a terre’ dwelling in the Netherlands. We’ve seen a lot of interesting furniture combos on Freshome and every time a new idea comes along, we are happy to share it further. A Dutch family living in Paris commissioned this project for occasional use and as you can see, no compromises in creativity were made.

The small space was enhanced with a furniture mix that is both unconventional and highly practical. A wooden mass visually unfolds to reveal a statement wall, a staircase, a bedside table, a sofa and yet another bedside table combined with an armrest. Everything “flows” in complete harmony, defining a clutter-free living zone. Storage is carefully hidden in the central wall. Extensive use of wood makes the crib inviting, despite a minimalist design approach. A dining table by the window seems to quietly wait for the owners to come back home.
