A moderate land elevation surrounded by a pristine landscape in Portland, Oregon was considered the perfect setting for Giulietti Schouten Architects to build the modern Hollcroft Residence. Choosing red wood for the street facade resulted in a modern, yet welcoming exterior. The building resembles a large wooden box, with original window piercings on each side, establishing an optimum connection to the outdoors.
It seems that no effort was too much when designing the interiors for the Hollcroft Residence. Tall ceilings give scale to the open plan living and dining area on the first level, wrapping everything up into a highly contemporary design pattern. The color palette remains simple, defined by a powerful black and white contrast and spiced up with unexpected hues. The red pendant lamp guarding the visual kitchen-dining table border acts as a disrupting aesthetic element, adding dynamics to the social zone.
