Apartment Chalkboards : Creative or Messy?

Did you ever think of the possibility of drawing all over your furniture without no one getting annoyed? In this post we would like to gather your opinions on chalkboards as apartment embedded objects.  In the pictures that follow, you will see a lot of examples of blackboards being used as walls or even as furniture. We think this is a great idea for the kids’ rooms, as it would stimulate their creativity. We also like the USA map because it does not occupy a lot of space and it is perfect for notes now and then. However, we think that a blackboard which covers an entire wall is better suited in a school than in a home. A large surface means a lot of chalk dust which in the end is not even all that healthy.

We’ve got a magnetic chalkboard built in on the side of our fridge area (2.5′x6′tall) – GREAT option so the front of our fridge stays free of clutter. But I wouldn’t want an area any bigger than this with young kids – the drawings get messy looking – I can’t imagine a whole wall this way.

Overall I think chalkboards as a design element are played out. When blackboard paint first came out it was nifty and cool. The cool factor was short lived. They once again belong in cafes and schools. That said, there are always exceptions. I like the kitchen with the chalkboard with the flower diagram. This room has a lot of things wrong with it, but it all ends up working really well.

I have a chalkboard wall in my room just for something different.
It’s quite a conversation starter for visitors, however can look a bit tacky when it gets dusty and no longer solid black

I still like chalkboards, but I think they look better in magazines than real life! The idea is great, but let’s face it, dirty chalkboards look awful! I once thought it would be good in kids rooms, but between allergies, and making sure kids know that all walls can’t be drawn on, makes me rethink it.

..when drawing a picture for a while, periodically remove .. then on, to be drawing again …. I think it is very interesting and not boring … the risks could look dirty .. if the scattered chalk drawings can be littering the floor …

Chalkboards?for me creative, because you can make an art out of it,you can shout or draw what you want to tell aside from that you can leave a message to all the person living in the house.Messy it depends to the owner how they right on it.

Great visual addition to home offices for design professionals. They definitely have their place, but like all things, moderation in size & placement is the key.
