It’s been a while since we came across designs that featured doilies. “This is probably for the best”- some of you might say and in most cases we would tend to agree. These ornamental items usually of lace or linen, used to be the centerpiece of almost any home a few decades ago. Now, however, they are considered tacky and quite a burden, due to the dust they inevitably come in contact with leading to a difficult maintenance. But can doilies be used in a “right” way? Can they bring value to a place? We think that the ideas below from Marian Duijvestijn are examples of how these obsolete items can still be of great help when it comes to arranging one’s home. What do you think? Should they have been long forgotten? -via Apartment Therapy

Growing up in “doily-land” as I did (aka “bureau scarves” by my Mom -who knew your case goods needed scarves?)I can’t believe I’m going to say this…but I love it!
Great! Design is re-design, isn’t it?
It´s funny, just this christmas I bought a jar with a doilie around it, thinking “Hmm, will everyone think I´m a granny now?” but really, who cares! They can be very beautifully made, and I like this idea of stringing them together and arranging them diagonally… interesting stuff!
