Parasols Umbrellas in the Shape of a Tulip

Let those excruciating summer heats pass you by easily and wave them gracefully from under these amazing Parasol designs. The umbrellas come from MDT, a German company. This is some information from their site concerning the firm and their creations: “From its origins as a traditional wood processing manufacture, Müller-Design-Technik has evolved into a high-tech industrial company. Pioneering innovations like the MDT tulip umbrella construction in 1996 lead to MDT becoming one of a few specialists worldwide with a comprehensive product range for unit and serial production of giant umbrellas“. This tulip-like shaped parasols are available in a variety of sizes, from four to nine-by-nine meters. The colors and patterns are amazing and truly give you a summer-party feeling. With a very easy opening and closing system, these huge umbrellas are easy to use and can shelter up to ten friends or more. Here is a contact form in case you want to get in touch with the designers.

Pretty design, but isn’t the idea of an umbrella to provide protection? Their models aren’t even sitting in the shade of the umbrella. I guess these are more of a visual thing rather than functional.

    Hello Lia,
yes, it’s exactly as you say. They’re pretty useless (even though they’re looking nicely), Frei Otto invented them already in the Sixties and they were shown on the Bundesgartenschau 1971.
An alternative would be use to use triangular parasols, wich also look special AND provide shelter.
