Loans make it possible to buy big-ticket items comfortably. And some credit card companies have even started giving us the option to spread out payments on large purchases over time. Luxury is now within everyone’s grasp. And Scentbird builds on this idea, but it’s way more fun.

Scentbird is a subscription service that makes it easy to get life’s little luxuries delivered right to your door for an affordable monthly fee. Fragrance is their core product (and they’ve got a lot of it with over 450 scents on offer), but they’ve also expanded into skincare, candles and makeup. And subscriptions start at just $15 a month.

How does Scentbird work?

If you’re a fragrance lover, Scentbird is for you. When you sign up for your subscription, you get to choose from their seriously impressive selection of scents. They have perfumes, colognes and unisex fragrances so there’s plenty of variety. Plus, they’ve got a good mix of designer classics and indie brands so you can score your favorites or explore new options.

At it’s most basic, a Scentbird subscription is $15 a month. That gets you a 30-day supply (although I’d argue it could cover you for a lot longer than a month) of the fragrance you’ve chosen. You could theoretically keep the same scent throughout the year, but the fun of Scentbird is getting to check out new scents without committing to a full bottle (or a hefty price tag). You also get a sleek, clever travel case for your not-so-small vial of fragrance. And, oh yeah, shipping is free.

The Scentbird item queue

Scentbird is pretty cleverly designed. Within your account, you can set up an item queue. Let’s say you have the one-item-for-$15-a-month subscription set up. You could line up your queue with twelve fragrances and have them shipped to you throughout the year for a totally hands-off way to treat yourself each month. Or you can constantly update your queue, swapping things around so you get what you’re most excited about next month.

Don’t want to be limited to just one item per month? No problem. Scentbird offers the following subscription options:

  • One item a month for $15
  • Two items a month for $25
  • Three items a month for $35

Scentbird beyond scent

And, thanks to their recent expansion into other lines, you can now use your Scentbird subscription for other luxuries. You can also choose:

Unlike Birchbox — which is also super fun but only sends you sample sizes — Scentbird sends you full-sized items. That means you could use your monthly item for a full makeup palette and get it for just $15. That’s a pretty sweet deal.

And, if you want fragrance and makeup, you don’t have to give up your monthly scent to make space in your next shipment for that Tarte mascara or Kat Von D liquid lipstick. Just increase your subscription to include more items and you can keep your signature scent in stock even as you build out your makeup collection. Considering every item I checked in the makeup offering retails for $20 or more, the Scentbird subscription feels like a steal.

My own Scentbird box

Starting at $15 a month, I saw no reason not to check out Scentbird for myself. They hooked me up with a pretty awesome starter box so I could really see what they can do and, wow, I’m impressed. I got to check out four scents with a clever carry case (see the picture below) and a few makeup products.

My Scentbird fragrances

The scents I got were:

First, let’s talk about the size of these vials. I’m a put-perfume-on-in-the-morning-and-that’s-it kind of girl. I think each one of these vials will last me a few months, at least. If you’re a spray-throughout-the-day kind of person, it might be closer to a 30-day supply, but I would still argue that the Scentbird monthly supply is very generous.

Now, onto the fragrances themselves. Of course, Dolce and Candy are iconic. I don’t personally love the overly sugary scent of Candy, but it’s a go-to of one of my best friends, so it definitely spurs some happy memories. Where Scentbird really shines is with the lesser known fragrances, though.

Midnight Fleur smells like creamy vanilla and amber. It has some woody notes that give it balance, but I’m not kidding you when I say it’s like a very adult cupcake. It would be an amazing date night scent, for sure.

My favorite of the bundle, though, was Fantasia. I might have a new signature scent in the making here! It’s floral without being overly feminine. The most dominant scent, to me, is raspberry, which is a nice sweet-but-clean fragrance I know I’m going to love this summer.

All this to say, if you love fragrances and are always trying to swing those baby samples from the department store, Scentbird is something you pretty much must check out.

My Deck of Scarlet makeup

Scentbird didn’t stop there, either. They also sent me some makeup from their sister brand, Deck of Scarlet. I got:

Mascara and a liquid liner are the staples in my beauty routine and I was thrilled with both of those products. The eyeliner’s tip is super fine so you can get a really casual day look, but it’s flexible enough to give a serious cat eye, if that’s your vibe. The mascara is quality, too.

I have to admit, I was a little intimidated by the palette. I’m no makeup master, and I put on eyeshadow about once a month. But Scentbird lent me a hand. There was a little card included in the palette that took me to the palette’s page on Deck of Scarlet’s site. And a quick scroll towards the bottom populated about a hundred tutorial videos. I’ve been bravely using the color palette, including it’s highly pigmented purple eyeshadow, ever since! And the fact that it included lip color is a major bonus for when I want a quick and easy way to dress up a look.

You can get all this for just $35. Image provided by Kacie Goff.

Try Scentbird for yourself

Don’t take my word for it. Check out Scentbird for yourself. You can get a pretty large amount of high-quality fragrance plus two full-sized makeup products for just $35. I don’t know about you, but I can’t get out of ULTA without spending at least that, so what have you got to lose? And they’re even running a promo for a free scent right now, so it’s the perfect time to take them for a spin.

Life’s little luxuries don’t have to cost a fortune. Treat yourself to the high life with this monthly subscription service. You deserve it.
