A recent collaboration between architecture firm SAOTA and interior design firm ARRCC resulted in Roca Llisa Residence, a modern project in Ibiza, Spain. According to the architects, the three-level house sits on hilly terrain with views of the ocean and the island of Formentera. The owners wanted an extensive refurbishment and alterations.
“From the bones of the existing villa, the clients asked us to create a contemporary Ibiza-style home that would allow for intimate, casual family living, as well as extensive entertaining of large groups of friends,” said Mark Rielly, a partner at ARRCC. “The complete renovation included additional accommodation in the form of guest rooms.”
To achieve a sense of calm and tranquility, the design approach focused on the use of organic materials, including timber and stone. Large sliding glass doors blur the line between indoor and outdoor living. Cottons, linens, raw timber, stone and marble against a backdrop of fresh white walls give the internal spaces natural harmony.
The interior design and décor needed to be simultaneously casual and elegant, and express a relaxed, almost bohemian character. What do you think of this modern Ibiza home? [Information provided by SAOTA; photography by Lorenzo Vecchia]
