With an envied location on the tree-covered confluence of Hog Pen Creek and Lake Austin, USA, the Hog Pen Creek Residence by Lake|Flato Arhitects is a Texas dream home. The owners of this site wanted a peaceful refuge with a great connection to the outdoors, that would accommodate them during their off-season training for ironman triathlons. Inviting covered porches and walkways serve as links between the interiors and the vivid landscape.
Three mature oak trees on the property dictated the L-shape of the building: “The main living area, a two-story single width volume with a master bedroom loft and porches on either end, takes advantage of the cool prevailing breezes and shade from the adjacent oak trees. A movable, barn-like door serves as a bedroom wall, providing privacy when needed from the living room below. These flexible spaces allow the house to be both intimate and social, effortlessly accommodating guests or individuals alike.” All interiors are fresh and inviting, with color playing a major role in livening things up.
