This Tribeca family loft, envisioned by Ghislaine Viñas in New York, projects plenty of cheerful vibes. Described as an amazingly fun project to deliver, this home for a family with four children exhibits ample living space for each inhabitant.
Thematic decorating and color variations spice up the design scheme. “The oldest daughter got her own room, with a lofted bed and custom millwork, where the color was based on the Marimekko print of her curtain,” the designer says. “The three boys share a room, and since there were such high ceilings, we were able to create a custom three-tiered bunk bed to fit them all. This interior is decidedly boyish, with a happy pirate painted on the wall and a color palette of black, white and green.”
The main living space is a nod to Danish design. “Light wood furniture is punctuated with the clients’ signature hot pink and a playful striped rug,” Viñas says. “The kitchen is entirely custom, with a poured concrete countertop that allows all the kids to be able to sit and do homework comfortably, and a back-painted glass backsplash, again in hot pink.”
The dining area provides ample seating for entertaining. The master bedroom, designed in greens and neutrals for a calming effect, features repurposed vintage side tables and artistic works from the family’s native Australia. Storage space was cleverly planned throughout the residence, leaving the entertainment areas spacious and uncluttered. [Photography by Eric Laignel]
