Gaudi Stool, a Mix of Architecture and Design

Share |

This interesting stool was designed following the creative patterns of Gaudi, the famous Spanish architect. Gaudi’s plans for building churches impressed millions of people throughout the decades, so why not make the most of them and include them in modern design?

The stool comes from Bram Geenen, a young designer from The Netherlands. Its shape was created “by making a model of hanging chains, so letting gravity determine the strongest and most logical shape for withstanding forces”. The chair was a part of a project that focused on the issue of lightweight products. You will find more interesting projects on Bram’s site and you can also get in contact with him by following this link.  Although the design is highly creative, the question of ergonomics comes to mind. This stool is great to have around in a commercial center or in your home for those times you have too many guests, but otherwise it does not look very comfortable.

Stool Inspired by Stalagmites and Stalactites

Share |

Ever imagined that someone would build furniture by studying the aesthetic qualities of stalagmites and stalactites, because I didn’t. Zachary Fluker is the guy that created the Hyme stool by using geometric rectangles in a very ordered and purposeful configuration. He actually built the rows from individual pieces, and then assembled the individual rows together to get the fluid shape of stalagmites he dreamed of. We can’t tell if it’s wise to take a sit or where in the living room you should place the Hyme stool, but you may want to take your chances.

Wood Table/Stool by Albero

If you love nature, and if you would like to feel like in the middle of nature, these simple pieces of furniture made from fallen trees can make your home look that way. They’re made from fallen trees, so they are environmentally friendly, and, since they are put together by hand, the natural characteristics are preserved. Legs are made from solid wood branches of various trees. The price for this piece of furniture is $1025 – $1200, because they are put together by hand. I think that is quite expensive.

The Saddle Chair

Share |

The design of this chair is based on the dynamic sitting position of the horseman. HÅG Capisco stool offers unique advantages for use with height adjustable worktables. With the saddle seat you can vary between low and high working positions – right up to standing positions, allowing you to be more dynamic, but still in balance. The seat and back are constructed so you can sit sideways or reversed on it and still support your arms. And the whole thing tilts back into a very comfortable reclined position. The seat of the HÅG Capisco is made from recycled bumpers and plastic packaging from household waste.
