Prefabricated House – Upcher by Bates Masi

Share |

The desing of the Upcher House by Bates Masi is a project for a writer and was a study in adaptability and re-use. The house was designed to be both spatially and economically efficient by coordinating the assembly of pre-manufactured components researched over the internet. It is essentially one large room with ancillary spaces that feed off it. The structure is an adjustable cantilevering rock system used in lumberyards. It is comprised of standard steel sizes with an assortment of brackets and arms that can be specified for any type of load or application. Bolted connections secure the steel arms and brackets to the steel columns.

From these appendoges cabinetry is hung, a fireplace mantel is suspended and handrails are applied. They also support the mahogany bookshelves walkway around the perimeter of the library. Prefabricated concrete foundation walls, formaldehyde free water-resistant fiber board, rough sawn akoume wood, aluminium windows, dyed concrete wall panels, pre-assembled wood screens, cabinets from IKEA and gabion retaining walls are the other elements that come together to form the house. The houses’s ability to be adapted and retrofitted, expanded or reduced allows for a mutiplicity of uses and to do so without waste is implicit in the design.

Minimalist House by Marià Castelló Martinez

Share |

Marià Castelló Martinez designed and build this beautiful minimalist house for himself on on the Spanish island Formentera. The building is a 12×12 meter square, sitting between existing woods and an old traditional stone wall. The house and studio are divided by a core infrastructure: library, filing cabinets, bathroom, kitchen, cupboards, Murphy beds, mechanicals, and two sliding iroko wood panels that can partition off spaces as needed, such as for a guest room. I love how something so little and simple can be so complex, modern and beautiful. – Via – materialicio.us & arkinetia

Single Hauz by Front Architects

Share |

I’ve found this project – Single Hauz by Front Architects a few days ago but I wans’t sure if I should post about this project. Finally to many people told me about this project and I’ve saw so much buzz about this project and I’ve decided to post. As you can see from these pictures the Single Hauz is an interesting house project that looks like a billboard that you can live in. Basically the design makes it easy to balance on top of a pole, which can be driven into a lake, sea, or the side of a mountain. Basically anywhere you have space you can put one of these houses. The design is beautiful, but from an infrastructural perspective this project is a nightmare (electricity, water, garbage, .. ), but who knows maybe this project will be improved. – Via – bldgblog

Kolonihagen Summerhouse – A Little Piece of Heaven

Share |

The Kolonihagen Summerhouse was designed by Tommie Wilhelmsen of Stavanger, Norway. The Kolonihagen Summerhouse is a great example of how much can be done with small spaces. Personally I’d love to stay in a small but beautiful house like this, especially in weekend, and that’s why I call this house a little piece of heaven, because is a great place to relax. But let’s stop talking and admire the pictures. – Via – Treehugger

Residence Klosterneuburg is a beautiful project designed by Project A01 and is situated in a small town near Vienna.

The site is situated on a slope overlooking the whole valley. The base of the building roughly follows the incline of the slope and is slightly terraced. In keeping with this concept, the ground floor consists of several levels also following the downward slope. These levels divide the lavish loft-like living space into various functional areas, such as the fireplace and the lounge area. The kitchen as well as the dining area- and breakfast terrace are likewise connected to the main living space. Various patios and terraces, as well as a swimming pool, are located around the building and create a seamless connection between the living space indoors and the landscape outdoors. A cantilevered structure is located above the ground floor and houses the private rooms. The steel columns are reduced to a minimum and follow the structural system. A gallery provides access to the library, the guest quarters and the children’s rooms. The master bedroom is located on a further level, half a floor above. There is also a separate bathroom and a walk-in wardrobe. The rooftop terrace offers a grand view over the green valley. The surfaces on the ground floor are made of stone and wood, whereas the upper level has been given a special coating, creating a smooth white box. The garage and the technical rooms, as well as the fitness room, are located in the basement. An underwater window in the fitness room creates interesting insights and lighting situations in the basement.
