Around the world, as people are becoming more conscious about the environment, the demand for eco friendly products is increasing. And when it comes to furniture, the trend of going green is fast picking up. A lot of furniture manufacturers took note this trend and started producing eco-friendly products and ensuring they were readily available.
Now Nick Demarco a student from from the California College of the Arts designed an “eco friendly piece of furniture” named the XS chair that can be filled with anything you have in excess- old clothes, magazines or in this case, garbage and bottles. The prototype is made of vinyl, but Nick says the production models will be made of a recycled plastic mesh. Finally I know that we all need to be eco-conscious, but I don’t think that you can sit comfortably on this kinda green chair that will have sounds of crushing bottles and denting cans when you rest your butt. I don’t know what they teach those students at this college, but there are definitely better ways to recycle your garbage and also to get an eco-friendly seating furniture. Below you can see the a video of Nick describing the chair.

I’ve discovered these pieces of furniture with a really unusual shape for a piece of furniture when I saw a report on Cuban art on Frontline/World earlier this week. They mainly focused on the work of Los Carpinteros, a group of two Cuban contemporary artists. From the pieces created by these artists the most interesting and in the same time unusual pieces of furniture were the grenade-jewelry case and the hands with all the drawers. In a few words a piece of furniture like this could be described as an object made from drawers. Finnaly I’m pretty sure that you’ll not see designs like these in production, and they are just concepts.

Fractal 23 is a very creative piece of furniture designed by Takeshi Miyakawa. I must admit that I’ve never saw a piece of furniture like this before. The design, by Takeshi Miyakawa is made to make the maximum use of space and 23 different sizes of drawers certainly do that for you. Finally I don’t think that the Fractal 23 is a practical piece of furniture, rather an interesting piece of art that can make your friends say “Wooow“. – Via – Core77

The Discoverydrawer is a piece of furniture that I really like, and it was designed by Richard Shed and Alex Taylor. Produced as a door or drawer unit system, both of which use the intriguing laminated peeled corner detail as an aesthetic and functional feature. The drawer system uses the peel detail to reveal a splash of the coloured internal drawer carcass. I like it because it looks so unreal, original and out of the ordinary at the same time.
