Designed by Aykut Erol the Line Furniture System is a metal wire system made with a single stroke or line. This system has everything from a lamp, to coat hook, to shelving, to TV set, to even a wine and CD racks! The most important characteristic of “Line” is it being a no-break line. Theoretically, the system extends infinitely with a single line regenerating itself. As a final word, the design is simple, and very creative, but the whole concept is not to practical unfortunately. - Via - 1, 2

Mosaics are great additions to home decor, not just for floors and walls but tables. Mosaic tiling on tables is not new but many of those you come across would not suit a contemporary style. So it is delightful to see the work of designer Brad Teasdale, co-founder of Brooklyn Glassworks, NY. He is ” the pioneer of exclusive techniques that blend contemporary concrete and glass design with classical mosaic craftsmanship.” His nested tables are an example of that skill. It is made of concrete, kiln formed glass and stainless steel and demonstrates his artistry with contrast and placements.
For those who prefer the warmer tones of wood, his custom designed Colourshapes table shows his versatility with mosaics on organic material. Overall this is one designer who is able to combine art with utilitarian function. Teasdale does custom installations of a wide variety of tile applications including furniture, architectural features and fine art. He could be called a modern mosaic master. - Via

Ever imagined that someone would build furniture by studying the aesthetic qualities of stalagmites and stalactites, because I didn’t. Zachary Fluker is the guy that created the Hyme stool by using geometric rectangles in a very ordered and purposeful configuration. He actually built the rows from individual pieces, and then assembled the individual rows together to get the fluid shape of stalagmites he dreamed of. We can’t tell if it’s wise to take a sit or where in the living room you should place the Hyme stool, but you may want to take your chances.

According to the less alarming forecasts of the GIEC (Intergovernmental group on the evolution of the climate), the ocean level should rise from 20 to 90 cm during the 21st Century with a status quo by 50 cm (versus 10 cm in the 20th Century). As a solution to this alarming problem architect Vincent Callebaut came up with this ecotectural marvel that could serve as a luxurious future retreat for 50,000 inhabitants seeking refuge from rising waters due to global warming. He believes the world will be desperately seeking shelter from the devastations of climate change, and hopes the auto-sufficient amphibious city will serve as a luxurious solution. To bad that right now we are close to 7 billion people and this luxurious future retreat is just for 50,000 inhabitants ( just for rich people ).

Vincent Callebaut called this project “Lilypad“, but this ecotectural marvel is also called as “Floating Ecopolis for Climate Refugees”. The whole structure is covered in green walls and roofs, the top portion covered in grasses with the inner portion featuring a palm oasis, and the under portion serving as a bed for natural sea planktons and oceanic plants. Finally if you were already planning to reserve a place to this luxurious future retreat stay calm, because Vincent Callebaut hopes that “Floating Ecopolis for Climate Refugees” will make the transition from design to reality around the year 2100.

Last month I’ve presented an idea called Sports Furniture, that was a solution for a small gym in your home. Today for those of you who liked that idea, here is something even better. I’m pretty sure that most of us don’t have apartments large enough so that we can have our own gym at home, and if you still want to be in shape Gabriel Prero has a solution for having a “little gym” in your home. Gabriel Prero decided that the best way for having a “little gym” in your home is to create a piece of furniture that also functions as a piece of top quality fitness equipment, and this is how the Otto Bench was born. Fitting easily in to our living rooms, this latest equipment combines a fully functional Olympic Bench Press, Multi-Adjustable Bench, and modular magnetic free weight storage into a beautiful long ottoman, as you can see from the pictures below. - Via
