One day while Fabienne saw some ad pages in some magazines she was inspired by a photo ( attached below ), to design a bed, here are his own thoughts “gee I really hate bumping into a hard bed, I want something completely padded, but modern looking”.

Starting from this picture Fabienne has documented in his blog all the steps he made to accomplish this project. Even if the final project doesn’t look that good as that bed from the ad, is a really beautiful piece of furniture for a DIY project. Finally let’s see the final result. If you want to see each step of this project : inspiration, woodworking, upholstery you can visit Fabienne blog. – Via

Designed by Fried-Jan Unger and awarded by “Good Design® Award” The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and Metropolitan Arts Press Ltd - Phi-ton is a bed in a new dimension: floating without a sub-frame, in a perfect symbiosis of design, luxury and health. No sub-frame, no free accessible moving parts, no possibility of jamming, no danger of hurting oneself. The advanced patented technology is invisibly incorporated. The Phi-ton bed has a self- correcting steering unit controlling the movements of all segments.

Whether set up in its basic horizontal position or in one of the almost unlimited variety of other positions: Phi-ton Bed always distinguishes itself with its floating design. Using the optional vibra-massage will further enhance this unique experience into what can only be termed the ultimate in comfort and relaxation.

The Phi-ton 3D-mattress, another proprietary Phi-ton development, is like the bed: different from all others. Made from highly functional 3D braided fabric, it enables a combination of all requirements that make for a real comfort mattress: optimum pressure distribution, unsurpassed ventilation and hygiene and high durability. And, it is 100% recyclable.

At Freshome we really enjoy furniture that can twist, bend or turn, to get a new shape for different purposes. Take the Huggy armchair for example. Normally it has a mattress that is wrapped inside a small cylindrical wooden base, like the ice cream in a cone, to form a 77 x 60 x 60 cm comfortable armchair. However if you need to come up with a solution, if your friends decided to stay overnight, you can change it into an extra bed. Just unscrew the base and roll the mattress on the floor, you’ll have a 190 x 120 cm perfect bed.
The Huggy armchair can even be changed into a small table. Turn the base upside-down and voila, you have a 60 cm diameter, 40 cm height and 12 cm thick, useful night table. It shouldn’t be very expensive and could easily be done by yourself if you have some time to kill. – Via
