High in the Slovenian Alps, a unique shelter was recently completed that has both mountaineers and architects applauding. It’s a bivouac — a no-frills shelter for hikers and mountain climbers, typically without doors. Despite its basic design, it stands as a welcome refuge for those who have been out facing the elements of the Alps.

Replacing an old shelter that stood in the same location, this bivouac was placed in its new home by helicopter. It sits at an altitude of 6,700 feet. For more information, visit anzecokl.com.
