Sometimes it’s the shape of the building that gives its charm, but other times it’s the furnishings you apply that get the eyes. Just take a look at the Butler Residence in Portland, Oregon, and you’ll know what I’m talking about. In charge with the whole project, the creative designers from PATH Architecture have managed to cover the house with stylish wood wall spirals in an effort to shatter the boundary between the interior and the landscape. With large open spaces, a massive columnar fireplace and amazing views of the nearby landscape, the whole house overflows with warmth.

What do you do if one day you see that the home you’re living in, no longer suits your family’s needs? Most people would probably sell and buy something bigger. But not if you’re architect Adams Mohler Ghillino and if it’s the 810 SF, single-story house in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood. Previously a single-story environment, Ghillino has decided to expand the space by adding another level to the house and creating two distinct areas defined by a cedar-clad wood wall. As for the connection between the interior and the exterior, it fades away by using slide-fold doors. Lots of painted cement fiber siding, tight knot cedar plank feature wall, plywood soffits, aluminum windows and a Zincalume sheet metal roofing, have lead to a real piece of art. We love it!

This house was built in the style of the 19th century. Recently renovated, it is currently up for sale for the sum of $7.2 million. You mind find the exterior and interior design very familiar and this is due to the fact that the house was the set for the 1990s television program “Party of Five“. Aside from its fame, the residence has many other strong features: its location is up on a hill, providing the rooms with spectacular views, it has seven bedrooms, a reception foyer, a huge gaming room and an impressive greenhouse solarium. We hope the pictures will give you a better view of what we are talking about.

This residence is actually a “remodeling” of an old family ranch. The team at U+B Architecture and Design did a great job in making the house more spacious and adding plenty of windows in order to ensure a great lighting throughout the day. The building seems to blend in its natural environment (a beautiful large wood) due to the materials used for the exterior finishes. The villa is located in Western Minneapolis and it was designed for a couple and their two children who will certainly not get bored of these landscapes any time soon.
