Third House From The Sun by Le 2 Workshop Studio is the third home of the current owners and is located in Lodz, Poland. Both of the clients’ previous dwellings had seemed to lack a bit of light and space, hence the pursue of a new place to live came to life. The spot is located in the nearby wilderness area and was chosen because of its exceptional landscape qualities. Due to the bizarre shape of the site a unique floorplan development was imposed. The one-story building comes with the main entrance located in the middle of its plan perimeter. The decision of establishing the functional programme with the center oriented doorway was all driven by the sun ephemeris analysis and the local planning regulations.

Being the final home of the residents to come, the house had to provide the most enriching daylight and spatial solution possible, within the desired functional layout. Another factor lying behind the building‘s architecture is the clients‘ wish of building an eco-friendly house. Once finished it eventually matched the passive house standard requirements.

The heart of Third House From The Sun is the common living space which is highlighted by the rising in the building‘s simple geometric form. It is also accentuated by the contrasting slate facade cross-fading between the exterior and interior, as seen from inside and outside of the house. Additional multifunctional, table-tennis room is situated behind the internally extended facade. The house plan is vertically divided into the areas of parents and children in order to keep the privacy of both. All of the bedrooms are buffered by bathroom and storage spaces.[Photos and information provided via e-mail by Le 2 Workshop Studio]
