Colombo is the most recent furniture project presented to us via e-mail by company WEWOOD–Portuguese Joinery. The unconventional egg-inspired table in solid oak was designed with elegance and irreverence, and produced with artisanal know-how. Colombo is a piece which combines an innovative look with traditional techniques of joinery. Its legs were constructed using wood-turning, a traditional technique which uses a mechanical lathe for carving the wood; its top is composed of three different layers of wood, in opposite directions, in order to avoid material warping.
With the egg-shaped top, the Colombo table is composed of two “halves”, which can be separated into two side tables when needed, each one having a well defined personality on its own. When divided, one side presents a half ellipse shape, while the other presents a semicircle shape propped with a rotating plate, making it a functional piece with multiple uses. Created to assume an active role in any living room, Colombo is a simple, practical and interesting looking table design. [Photos and information provided via e-mail by WEWOOD-– Portuguese Joinery]
