Playing with Perception: Prism Table by Maurie Novak

Prism Table by Australian-based designer Maurie Novak (of MN Design) is one of those creative furniture objects that triggers your attention instantly. Associated by Dornob with a trippy Pink Floyd laser show, the thought provoking object looks different from every standpoint. The magic was obtained by attaching colored elastic lines to a single stainless steel bar, part of the table frame. Various patterns are thus cleverly created, color being a major factor of the dazzling 3D effects.

The designer describes her work, as if explaining an art concept: “Like a prism refracting light – this table takes lines of color, emerging from a single bar and transforms them across its frame. By weaving and twisting its linear geometry this table transforms from point to point. The maze of mixing colors creates surfaces that meld together to form a beautiful whole”. A glass tabletop makes it possible for the users to look down into the colorful strands, as they sit at the the table. Find this design as captivating as we do?
