Surprising Mix of Rectangular Volumes: Casa Familiar in Athens

advertise here

Recently completed by Office Twentyfive Architects, Casa Familiar is located in a suburb of Athens, called Gerakas. It is surrounded by other private residences with gardens, public spaces and a narrow land without form to the north, which will son become a public park. The residence consists of a dominant white volume combined with large glass surfaces and cedar wood, partially covering the facade of the upper level. The back of the house opens up towards towards a courtyard and the green land beyond.

The ground floor accommodates the living room, kitchen and dining room, plus a cellar and parking. The open plan living and kitchen is dominated by a gray fireplace wall. First floor was developed as a large volume (visually covering the entire length of the site), taking advantage of the views of the park from every room. A cantilever marks the entrance. This level contains a private lounge space, bedrooms and bathrooms. [Photography: Matheus Kleanthis]
