chess A Playful Design Reinterpretation: Chess Stools by Giorgio Bonaguro

This family of stools, designed by Giorgio Bonaguro for Icons Furniture, aim at giving a playful interpretation to this particular type of indoor furniture. The collection starts with Alfiere ( the “Bishop” in Italian) which is a stool in solid wood: it features a geometric form, interrupted by a large diagonal cut which acts as a magazine rack; next to it is moving Regina (the “Queen”), with a more “aristocratic” and imposing shape, and Pedone (the “Pawn”), a round and simple stool.

The stools are produced by Icons in solid scented cedarwood with semi-artisan techniques and processes, enhancing the value and finishes. I love the magazine holding feature on the one stool. I could visualize several of these serving as a base for a unique looking cocktail table. Just add your own glass top and of course display your chess set on it.
