Proof that modern residences can be both imposing and comfortable, the Black & Red Residence rises in Jose Ignacio, Punta del este, Uruguay. Its 340 square meters of bold interior spaces were designed to make the life of a family with kids of different ages easy, comfortable and inspiring. The residential project, completed by Martin Gomez Arquitectos in 2009, shows that the architects customized the residence according to the needs of each family member  and the result was a three independent volume structure connected by a concrete galleria leading to the backside wooden deck and swimming pool.

The fantastic villa features interiors adorned with dark wooden ceilings that continue on the outside, where round skylights allow the sunshine to pierce through. Two concrete fireplaces in the connecting galleria ensure family and friends can cook or relax in front of the fire. This common semi-outdoor space gathers the family together, while the other spaces keep them relaxed, rested and entertained – master bedroom and bath, living room, kitchen, kids bedrooms with baths and the playroom. During summer, natural light plays with the black and red wood and contrasting concrete, flooding the spaces with light and shadow and making the interiors display different faces during the day.
