Located in the core part of Girona’s medieval quarter and overlooking the Plaça de Sant Domènec, Spain,  this is a property called Alemanys 5 within an original building dating back to the sixteenth century. The house has been recently renovated by architect Anna Noguera and has and incredible design which integrates old and new, integrates traditional and contemporary elements: “The new layout respects the logic of the structure to adapt it to the new functional requirements. On the ground floor, from the main door, the vestibule and small premises are accessed, on the first floor are a dwelling with an exit to courtyard and garden, and the second and third floors accommodate a duplex dwelling, with the night zone in the lower floor and the living room and kitchen in the upper floor to provide vistas and a roofed terrace. The project is organised around the two centrelines that structure the floor plan. The staircase has been shifted to place it next to the lift, in the interstitial space between the two directional lines of the centrelines. This space is configured as the hinge that generates the entire layout“.- stated Anna Noguera, architect of Alemanys 5. We are looking forward to your impressions about this diverse and unique project.

One word only – awesome! I have never seen anything so decently matching the old with the new… I could never imagine medieval building be so comfortable and worth living. I love it in every detail! Great job, well done!

On a personal level, I find myself torn between loving the medieval & ultra contemporary / minimalistic. I never imagined that the two could be combined! I am blown away–this is beautiful. It all goes together perfectly <3 A few features that really stand out are the natural stone walls & stairs, the ceiling's exposed wood beams, & the addition of windows that sort of display the staircase as art. I would love to live here. And… if I ever strike it mega millions rich, I am finding the architect Anna Noguera and having her do the castle I will buy that ihave always wanted. Thank u for posting this.

This is beautiful! Only a couple of things I would change, black walls and the kitchen cabinets. Those 2 just stick out like sore thumbs. The rest is, I love.

The perfect fusion of the old and the modern, very natural. And it’s quite luminous for a former medieval dwelling – it’s great that the architects kept that in their minds while doing the reconstruction.

I Love the apron sink in this one!! The cool grays and tans would normally come off cold but the overall feel of this home is warmth! I saw a liveable space in every room! Loved it!

[...] This house would make a gorgeous hotel.  As a home it is pretty empty.  Maybe some people like it that way.  I would need a little more color. [...]
