From Gudmundur Jonsson, this vacation home is located in a country area in Iceland. Pretty unusual exterior for such environment, wouldn’t you say? However, its architecture plans was based on thorough research of the landscape. its position beween the sea, the mountains, a glacier and a canyon. Apparently, these were the elements that helped coming up with this interesting design. Here is some further information from the architects: “Those elements are the creator of the project, the transitions between the landscape views giving the entrance from the north and the curved plan giving a vitalized focus towards the seaside in south. When turning back the north view towards the mountain is as well enhanced with the widening view due to the fan-shape of the tilting wooden wall, being a mediator between the northern and southern landscape characteristic.”

This is a fantastic project – although there could be some more use of green components – like the massive wall could house a series of solar panels or most likely allow for some solar wind generation. Its time that costly design also reflect a sensitivity to the environment – not just with green materials but with energy generating technology.
