I have to disagree with part of this article: minimalism costs more than Victorian design minly because of costly manpower. minimalism in order to work requires absolute precision of finishes. Totally smooth plaster and even finishes are highly time consuming and so costly. With the minimal style, individual pieces stand out more against a stark background, therefore need to be a higher quality to work well. Victorian design on the other hand can be put together from charity shops, thrift stores, and garage sales. The larger amount of objects in a Victorain style home blend into each other and so don’t need to be as a high a quality. The whole look can get away with lower quality finishes and objects.
I know which I’d rather attempt on a budget.
