kitchen renovations using white glass tiles

It’s tough to spend on “high-end” or “luxury” kitchen renovations in an economic downturn. Compared to a complete overhaul, a more affordable option is to update your kitchen by installing a backsplash of stylish and eclectic glass tiles. Not only will a homeowner save a significant amount of money, a glass tile backsplash will completely transform the look and value of your kitchen. Before the renovation, this kitchen was lackluster, dim, and the worn-out backsplash blended in with the cabinets making the kitchen seem a lot smaller than it was. The backsplash was just a painted dry wall which proved hard to clean from grease and food.

Wanting a sophisticated, modern and affordable new look, the owner consulted with interior designer Eli Mechlovitz, founder of GlassTileStore.com. Mechlovitz suggested that the owner install some high-end, bright, lightly-toned glass tiles as a backsplash; the right combination would brighten up the kitchen. They choose the Super White Frosted blend from GlassTileStore.com, which provided simple clean lines to contrast against the dark cabinetry. When the project was completed, the white glass tiles opened up the kitchen design to more natural light, created a textural background, and added more dimensions – which made the space seem larger and more luxurious. The use of narrow, smaller tiles and a brick pattern generated visual energy for the eye.

I liked your article and thought you were right and that with
the right materials and eye you can alter the feel dramatically.
I have spoke with Eli on the phone when ordering through his site and
thought him to be very knowledgeable and considerate. Plus his attention to detail is
pretty much immaculate in my opinion. Very Nice Gentleman. Plus in this economic downturn,
you won’t find a better price for tiles of this caliber anywhere.

    Thank you Eli –

Can someone please tell me the exact name of those glass tiles? I think it would be perfect for my kitchen. The article says it’s Super White Frosted blend, but the site doesn’t have such name. I emailed Eli and he advised that it was the Tao Icicles. I ordered a sample it, but it looks like the tiles have a hint of green on them. Are these the right tiles? Thanks!

Tao Icicles is what’s shown in these pictures – I ordered a sample of this as well as a sample of Tao Bliss from the website – tao bliss definitely has a sea green color to it mixed with white tiles. Tao Icicles should be a mix of frosted white and clear white – shouldn’t have a hint of green to it. Maybe the website sent you the wrong one?

I could be wrong but glass generally has a tendency to a slight greenish tint, try picking up a cup made of thick glass, you should see that. It also picks up the color of anything reflecting light around it so will change depending on where you are, but once it’s installed, it will only show the white paint of its backing. Also beware that glass tiles will generally appear a bit darker after grouting them because light cannot get in through all 4 sides of the tile, only through the front. As such I recommend going a slight shade lighter than your desired color.

There are different prices of glass out there. The more lead content it has, the cheaper the glass and the more greenish it looks. The Tao Icicle is probably made of the cheaper glass. I am in the market for white glass tiles as well and have bought many samples. The best one out there is from http://www.glasstiletrend.com. They have a staggered brick bright white which has the best quality. The prices are the best too. They also have 1×2,3×6 and 1/2×12 strips in the color.

The Glass Tile is beautiful and by the way, the tile does have another name in the industry call the “super white glass tile” and it come in many different size and pattern too.
and the super white tile is normally a little bit costly than those normal color glass tile.
