Honestly speaking this is the first time I’ve seen wooden flooring on the ceiling and walls, to create such a warm atmosphere that appeals. I agree that black and white mix really well when it comes to walls and furniture, but Kata’s modern retail interiors in Japan are simply amazing. Sounds like the perfect solution if you plan on opening up a clothing store or even a restaurant, and just want to ditch those white walls we’ve all been used with. Blends in with style, isn’t it?

The Za, from Misosoupdesign.com is a stackable stool with several possibilities. The basic shape is a free standing unit with some strategically placed slots. Use it alone to sit on the floor, Japanese style, if you need a backrest. Several of these units can also stack up neatly forming low slung chairs. The stacked configuration naturally also saves space if storage is an issue.

However, the clever bit is when two of these units are interlocked by sliding them together via the slits. Then they form a stool or even a small table. Neato!!

Hate clutter? Hate heavy wooden desks? Then check out this wonderful Italian design which focuses on sleek geometric angles. The Vitra desk is perfect for the executive or the discerning home owner after an elegant yet minimalist design. It consists of just three thick slabs of glass and two cherrywood drawers joined together by a single chrome rod.

The cantilevered wooden drawers were cleverly shaped to echo that of the base. They really appear to be floating! This visually appealing design will not add bulk to the room but it will lighten your wallet considerably. It costs $4100 from the Italiandesign.com’s virtual store. – Via

Ecodecor’s Tatami Flight Chair is a piece of furniture that combines traditional Japanese materials, methods and craftsmanship with the Western style of sitting and is designed by Chris Gurney for Ecodecor. Ecodecor is the furniture label by Brandarchitecture whose consistent design theme is ‘healing space for the next generation’. The chair looks awesome but from this picture I don’t think that is to comfortable. – Via
