Converting a YMCA Gym into a Beautiful Apartment

A few months ago we presented “A Chapel that was Converted Into a Modern Apartment by Zecc” , the chapel was part of a large housing complex of the Friars of Utrecht, which at its height, around the mid-20th century, housed 217 residents. Today I would like to present another challenge that an interior design agency had. They ( the Apartment ) completely converted a 7,000 square-foot YMCA gym into a beautiful 5 bedroom apartment building, and I can say that every details of the apartment is stunning, from the vibrant colors to the detailed wallpaper and carpets. The place was in disrepair from years of abandonment ( as you can see in the picture below ) and needed some love.

In converting the oldest YMCA gym, all of the colors were completely revamped, and a lot of restoration occurred, but the building still contains some of the original features. The original girders are still in place, although restored and painted to match the contemporary style. Green rugs and pink furniture are mixed with the unpainted concrete floors. The rooms are a mix of vibrant chairs, covering a wooden floor painted with court lines. The whole building is a perfect collaboration of the original gym, mixed with a new contemporary feel. Now take a look at the final result …amazing !

House Baetens – Strange or Just Modern?

The same country, the Netherlands, this new house by JagerJanssen architecten BNA looks a bit like the one from the other days, that kept sound away – M House. And I’m talking about the exterior. True? It’s a 200 sqm two-storey house that uses a very simple design, with hard materials (lots of bricks) at the ground floor, and wood and glass on the upper floor.

But a nice large open kitchen that maximizes space, large windows and modern materials are not the only things to get me convinced that’s a dream home. One of the most interesting things about the House Baetens is the lovely balcony. Can you find something else? Do you like it? – via ArchDaily

White Interior Design Inspiration : Long Island White Castle

A castle is not exactly my dream home and if you only add white and black, then it’s worse. But there is something about the White Castle and I’m not sure what. Believe me I’ve been looking at these pictures for over an hour now and it’s somehow addictive. Designed by architect Steve Blatz for a private art dealer – Olivier Renaud-Clément – the 1,500-square-foot immaculate city loft was intended to showcase his collection of art & Italian design from the 60s and 70s.

The clean sharp shapes, the mixture between a highly modern architecture and the furniture, the no-doors living space plus the monochromatic scheme really appeal to me. Do you like this white palazzo? – T Style Magazine

Sound Wave Inspired Chair

Matthew Plummer Fernandez’s unusually textured chair was inspired by sound waves. Those contours were taken from an actual frequency plot (see below) or 3D graph of volume (height), frequency (depth), and time (width) of a particular sound he chose. He tried more than 700 sounds before he found the one he liked for his chair.

The precision cut chair is quite comfortable to sit on as the designer made it with water jet-cut polyethylene foam! His Sound Chair is available for a shatteringly loud price of $7,280. Plummer-Fernandez is London-based and is of British and Colombian extraction. – Via
