You thought the Aeron was cool? Wait till you take a seat on Herman Miller’s new Embody chair. Herman Miller, the company that designed the iconic Aeron Chair, is back with a new ergonomic desk chair meant to enhance health and productivity of workers called Embody. Designed by the late Bill Stumpf and Jeff Weber, the Embody chair was made to respond to involuntary human behavior. “Sitting in this chair versus other chairs you can actually reduce your heart rate, increase your blood flow and open up your chest cavity,” said Jeff Jansma, director of new product commercialization. One significant feature of the new chair is an exposed spine-like flexing structure for the backrest.

The back moves with 56 flexors to support the occupant, and the seat cushion is topped with 93 connected plastic discs, or pixels, to move as the sitter moves. Embody, which comes in 13 colors and three finishes, has a price tag slightly higher than the Aeron, costing $1,595. It will be available at retail stores sometime in early 2009 and hopes to attract early adopters and trendsetters in the market place. Although the company has yet to disclose if the two years of research it spent on Embody will spark future products, it concedes that there are other opportunities on the horizon. – Via

Most of us enjoy a hot, soaking bath after a long, hard day. But would you like to sit in bath tub in your living room? This odd chair is a lounge chair which is shaped just like a bath tub on end. It is kept upright by two metal tipped legs. It’s called the Seatub - a combination of seat and tub.

The Seatub was designed by London based Baek-Ki Kim. He tries to change people’s normal perspective by changing the function of every day objects. So prehaps he is trying to shift the relaxation and refreshment we get out of our baths to the living room! – Via

We’ve seen many styles of bio ethanol fireplaces for indoor and outdoor use but the urBonfire is different. It actually resembles the kind of log fire you build when you go camping. As the fuel is both odorless and smoke-free you can use it either on your patio, garden or even in your living room! The urBonfire is made from sleek steel and glass which would fit in quite nicely in a contemporary decor which needs a portable fireplace to add some warmth. The German designer is Michael Hilgers who created the urBonfire for rephorm.

After you see this incredible outdoor lighting installation, you will yearn to change the cheap solar lights in your garden. Bruce Munro, a British lighting designer will installing his iconic Field of Light again this winter at the Eden Project in the English county of Cornwall. This immense installation will use 6,000 acrylic tube lights containing optical fibers. The effect of so many small lights coming on at night is akin to the blooming of desert flowers after a rainstorm. The effect of the lights by a lake or pond is particularly lovely.

Munro was inspired to make his Field of Lights after a trip to the Australian desert years ago. He remembered stopping by roadside campsites each adorned with some large surreal sculpture like a giant banana or merino sheep. So, together with the blooming desert flowers, he thought he could make something surreal in the barren darkness of night.

The lights at the Eden Project will cover 60 meters x 20 meters using an incredible 24,000 meters of optical fibres. In the works for next year is his massive illuminated maze synchronized with choral music called Water Towers at the Rook Lane Arts in Frome.
