With the world’s attention and probably yours glued to the television coverage of the Beijing Olympics, few could have failed to notice the spectacular Bird’s Nest Stadium where the opening ceremony took place. Well, here is seating that looks just like the stadium. The X_Lounger is a modern bean bag of a chair where ” a single ray has been traced along a periodic double curved surface, resulting in a random looking yet controlled construction pattern.” The X_Lounger is available either in satin aluminum or Malaysian rattan.

Timothy Schreiber is the architect and designer behind the X_Lounger who describes his style as “pop modernism”. He has traveled the world for his many projects. He was actually in Beijing and Shanghai in 2004 and 2005. Whilst he was in China, he helped designed the Aquatic Centre for the 2008 Olympics. – Via

The internet and computing has changed our lives so much so that many of us now spend hours and hours on our computers. We often forget what it is like outside. So why not get a window that looks just like Microsoft Windows, the operating system that most of us use? John Nouanesing, the talented French designer has come up with obviously named Fenestra 3.1 which is no ordinary window. Open or shut, it shows the familiar landscape view of Windows – blue skies and green fields. For his Windows theme update, Nouanesing has naturally promised Fenestra XP.

You can’t buy any of his delightfully quirky designs including this design just yet . But by the end of the year, he hopes to have a company up and running with a catalogue of some of his creations. – Via

Rafael Morgan’s “UnsTable” is a genial concept table is currently being prototyped in Europe at the Studio Mango but will be manufactured in Brazil by Rafael’s design company VIRA. This table gives the illusion of being a shaky table thanks to the clever use of movable blocks round a stable rod. However the in reality the table is pretty grounded and will not spill or topple anything. This is not the first product from Rafael Morgan that we conver on Freshome, last year we also presented to Hope Table and the Light Drop. – Via – Core77

The Innuit who live in northern Canada once built homes out of ice blocks. Now a modular home manufacturer, Japan Dome House Co. Ltdhave come up with styrofoam dome houses. These houses are produced in sections and are designed to be assembled easily and quickly by a few people. There are already 480 of these houses at the Aso Farm Land village resort in Kyushu which are used as accommodation, recreation and as retail shops.

The most outstanding feature is the low cost which starts at under $30,000. However, the dome house has a long list of other benefits. It is very light – weighing only 80 kg. The 7 inch thick walls provides thermal insulation. The walls are coated with fire retardant making the houses fireproof. Being what it is, the dome house will not rust, rot and is definitely not termite food. It is also earthquake and gale resistant – the latter due to the dome’s low wind resistance profile.

Both the exterior and the interior can be customized. The company also offers “long domes” and dome styles which can be linked together. These domes are very versatile. They can be made into guest houses, meeting rooms, hotel rooms, steam rooms, bars, restaurants, freezer rooms and even karaoke bars! Via
