Ultra Modern House on Australia Gold Coast

This ultra contemporary house is located in the Paradise Point suburb of Australia’s Gold Coast. I love how this house looks from the outside, but I don’t know why the interior reminds me of a shopping mall, huge …with so little things in it. The 14-room house is thoughtfully planned to offer open-concept social spaces and private spaces. The spacious mail level mirrors the modern and geometric elements of the home’s exterior, with high ceilings, simple lines and lots of natural light to flood every corner. As for functionality, this home has it all in its four bedrooms, four bathrooms and six-car parking.

After you’ll look at the pictures attached I’m pretty sure that you’ll agree with me that this house was clearly designed to impress, and is an awesome place for parties. Finally I want to say that this house is currently for sale with a $3.9-million price tag ( more info at Susan Crook Realty ), which includes the artful furnishings and all the details that make it a true masterpiece. – Via

The Cabbage Chair

Personally I don’t consider this a design, for me this is just something considered a design and made by someone who was very bored. The cabbage chair is created by peeling away the layers of a roll of pleated paper one layer at a time. The designer Nendo made this chair for the XXIst Century Man exhibition curated by Issey Miyake, where he asked them to make furniture out of the pleated paper that is produced in mass amounts during the process of making pleated fabric, and usually abandoned as an unwanted by-product. Nendo’s solution to his challenge transformed a roll of pleated paper into a small chair that appears naturally as you peel away its outside layers, one layer at a time.

The chair has no internal structure, no screws or nails, and could be eventually produced so that it gets shipped as one easy roll for the customer to peel back and use at home. I don’t recommend buying useless stuff like these, but I’ve posted about this chair to see what other people from around the world think, and create.

Giant Hand-Knitted Carpet by Sebastian Schoenheit

Have you ever had to gently refuse your mother’s or grandmother’s old-fashioned hand knitted work? However much you appreciated their skill, knitted accessories just won’t do for the trendy, modern look you’re trying to achieve for your home? Perhaps you might change your mind after seeing the “300 Knitted Carpet” created by German designer, Sebastian Schoenheit.

His carpet was indeed hand-knitted but he used gigantic knitting needles nearly as tall as he is. Perhaps he learnt how to knit from his grandmother. If so, she did a great job for his stitches are even and well-formed. It must have taken not just strength to hold the needles to knit but also a long time to get through the work. I’m not sure what the “300″ meant but I suspect it might be the actual number of stitches he knitted before falling down in utter exhaustion at the end!

Lampshades You Can Peel Off and On!

There is something to commend about the bare light bulb. It could give you the extreme minimalism look you desire or be simply a poignant remember of impoverished student days. Either way, these great peel able light bulb covers should brighten up that naked light bulb in your home.

Patchwork Furniture from Recycled Wood Waste

The wood waste and off-cuts from factories are being put to good use by designer Amy Hunting. She has created a furniture and accessory line which includes a chair, a book box and 12 lamps. The wood waste was collected from factories in Denmark and glued together prior to being made into her distinctive eco-friendly designs. The pieces are not screwed or bolted in any way.

Her book box design is a highly versatile bookcase as it can be used in different positions. When it is flipped upside down, the legs create additional shelving. Flipping it on its side gives another permutation of shelving. The book box can be stacked one on top of another. Wall mounting is another option.

The 12 lamps were actually created from a single block of reconstituted wood. Each lamp was carved out of the block with the latter diminishing in size until there was nothing workable left of the wood block. – Via
