Beam Bed – Sun-Rays-Like Light Effect

The Beam Bed was designed by Ewan Robertson for Lagostudio. An original system of boards forms the base for the mattress, opening up in a sunburst arrangement from a central fulcrum. The way of supporting the mattress is therefore innovative and unorthodox, but decidedly functional and practical. Inspired by a figure of elementary simplicity and beauty, the sun, it generates brilliant illuminating effect. The source of light at the base irradiates beams of light like a sunburst through the sun-rays-like opening resulting in a seductive light-shadow. The final effect looks good, and someway it makes me things at an alien spacecraft …but at least the lack of odd shadows would reassure you that there were no monsters under the bed! – Via

This is absolutely beautiful! Even though its technically a lot of light, spreading it out like that dilutes it beautifully and turns it into a soft light source that’s perfect for a bedroom.

Kinda creepy, isn’t it? I mean, a bed is where you’re supposed to
relax, right? Even sex on this bed would be kind of comical. Also,
the boards facing up towards your body like that doesn’t make me
think of comfort when you’re on it either. The surroundings of a
bed give a placebo effect: even if they don’t affect actual comfort
of the mattresses, you’re still going to think uncomfortable thoughts
while you’re on it. It’s like sleeping on a bed over spikes, even
if there’s a thick barrier on top of it.

    love it!

maybe….it should have a soft changing colored light underneath, instead of the one colour. it would creat a more space age look, almost like it was hovering over the beams of light…..or…..a light that slowly rotates under the bed, this would creat ever changing shadows on the floor.
