The Ice Lounge is a place created for relaxation and especially to enhance the pleasures of a truly delightful ice cream. Right now you might ask yourself why ice cream ? This piece of furniture was created by Claudio Colucci for a a Swiss ice cream manufacturer. Claudio’s objective was to create a chair that would enhance a person’s experience while eating ice cream. The lounge also contains an in-built music system that allows connoisseurs to enjoy their fav tunes along with the sugary delights as well as the benefits of Chromotherapy. The final result is called the “Ice Lounge” that you see in the picture. Ice Lounge is a unique “hideaway” where you can escape the fast pace of your life, and enjoy some ice cream. – Via

Most of us would not be able to guess the origin of these plump stools, pouffes and chair for the designer, Dutch born Frank Willems has truly given old mattresses an extreme makeover. His idea came about after a project on material life. He noticed almost all unwanted waste material could be recycled except mattresses. They were destined for the landfills simply because they could not be shredded – they would get stuck in the machines.

What he does is to fold them up in different ways and then lashes the voluminous seat on top of the legs of varying styles of antique chairs. The whole thing is made hygienic by a spray-on water resistant foam coating. He then paints it in vibrant colours. The stool was his first creation but he has since gone on to add chairs and pouffes to the endearingly named Madam Rubens Collection. His stool is currently being displayed in an exhibition on seating entitled “Please do not Sit” in the Tooles Gallery in France. – Via

Clear lamps are great because they can blend so easily with any color scheme. But won’t it be even better if they could also help you solve organizational problems in your home at the same time? Like misplaced magazines and books. If you’ve been spending too much time hunting for that book you were reading, then you might like the clear reading lamp by Bureaudebank of The Netherlands. There is also a frosted version. It is a combination reading lamp and book or magazine stand made from perspex and stainless steel. The lamp is divided into two halves with a space for the books. Now you will spend less time hunting and more time reading for your book will be literally on the lamp by your favourite coccooning spot.

The second featured lamp design is by Nicolo Taliani of Italy. His lamp solves the perennial problem of long, dangling lamp electrical cords. If you are not fond of bundling up the cord with some unsightly tie, then it makes so much sense to incorporate that cord as part of the design of the lamp. His Lamp No. 1 design comes in four different colors – red, white, black and orange. The cord colors match the lamp shade for an added color punch. These are “clearly” two examples where the designs have form and double function!

The Kid’s Roll Top Chair has a sitting surface that works like an old-time roll-top desk, sliding away to reveal storage space where kids can put their toys and other “stuff” while being usable as a chair too. As the name of this chair already suggests, the chair was designed for kids, and it looks like a cool idea, but I think that the chair will be broken in a few hours or maximum days, because as we all know kids love to see how things work, and experiment. If you want it no matter what, and you don’t care that your kids might destroy it quickly you can buy it from here for $168. – Via – 1,2

By looking at this modular bed design concept designed by Swedish designer Marcia Hanvey Isaksson, I can say that a bed like this should exist in every hotel. The design is basically a double bed that lets you instantly split it into two single beds without having to spend your back for it. Each single bed is attached at the head with a rail in the headboard, so if you want a double bed for you an your partnet or to have more space in your bed just slide the beds apart. Since the headboard also features storage space, this modular bed becomes just the perfect bit of furniture for the kids’ room or even for the guests. – Via – 1, 2
