Take a look at the pictures from this post …I’ve found them today on Apartment Therapy and I think that this suspended library is a great idea for a house with high ceilings. That empty space is now a beautiful library, that also saves space on the ground, accessible by ladder, high up enough so that it doesn’t loom.

This is an amazingly unique and beautiful idea! It makes me wish the ceilings in my home were high enough so I could build one of these. I would love to have an area like this where I could sit and read a book and be able to watch my kids without them really disturbing me. When we decide to move, we’re going to look for a home with ceilings high enough for this. I literally walked away from the computer for a minute to call my husband to see this. Thanks for this post!

It is a great idea for anybody who doesn’t use or read their books.
Finally I found someone else with the same/similar idea! We have a huge great room with a floor to ceiling fireplace on one wall and the other wall is empty with a large indentation for an entertainment center. I thought it would be great to build and 24 inch deck complete with railing and circular stairway up to the library very much like what you have shown. It is wasted space anyways and the library idea I thought was so unique! Our railing would be wood and metal to match to open staircase and the woodshelves all oak. SO great to see you did this too!
