The Cape Schank House in Victoria, Australia designed by Paul Morgan Architects is a great example of integrated sustainable technology in residences. The most interesting thing at this house is the water tank, the ceiling wraps down to an internal water tank. The tank cools the ambient air temperature of the living room during summer, supplies rain water, and structurally carries the roof load. During winter the tank is drained and wrapped in an insulating jacket. The tank also plays an important role in organizing the living area into four discrete zones: kitchen, living, eating and work. I agree that this water tank might take some space, but the design and implementation is awesome. - Via - Solardecathlon & materialicious

Over the time you’ve seen a lot of bookshelves on Freshome, but what I’ve found today is really impressive. I was browsing Flickr and I found this beautiful example of organizing books by color and the smart guy that managed to do it, is user chotda. This is a very good way of changing the whole aspect of a bookshelf with a little bit of creativity. I guess you’ll have to pay more attention to the book’s cover from now on if you want to reproduce that effect and have your own rainbow bookshelf.

CASULO is a complete set of room furniture designed by Marcel Krings & Sebastian Mühlhäuser, which can be set up in less than ten minutes and later disassembled and repacked like a standard Euro pallet of 80 cm by 120 cm. No tools are needed in the process. In the first picture this set of room furniture it might look like a simple and small 31″x47″ (that’s 80 cm x 120 cm) box, but inside this box, there’s an armoire, a desk, a height-adjustable stool, two more stools, a six-shelf bookcase, and a bed with a mattress. In the second picture you can actually see what this little box can become, and if you don’t believe that this is possible scroll down, and at the end of this post you’ll see a movie where you can actually see how this little box will become complete set of room furniture. - Via - Treehugger

We have presented the Skateboard Shelf a few months ago, but today here is something more extreme, every piece of furniture is inspired by a skateboard. Skate Study House (SSH) is an innovative design concept specializing in recreating popular furniture through the vision of a skateboarder. The movement of a skateboarder constantly changes it recreates itself by transcending boundaries and inventing ways to conquer obstacles. It’s constantly about anticipation and adaptation to one’s environment. The same is true for living design. The combination of the two produces a mixture of contemporary lifestyle, art and action sports culture, which is all found in this unique collection. I’m pretty sure that skaters will absolutely love this idea.
