I can't imagine that's to code for a full story staircase. And as beautiful as it may be, as dexterous as I may be, I'd be scared witless to ascend that thing. There ought to at least be a spiral railing on the center pole itself. That would be a nice way to combine form with function. Hmm, maybe it's there and it's just not obvious in this picture. The rest of it is beautiful, though. Lots of light and just enough 'warmth' from books and asymmetrical decor to keep it from being entirely a museum. Reminds me a little bit of Cameron's house in Ferris Beuller's Day Off. ;) I'd add a piece or two to the room with the burgundy chairs. That spiral staircase has no railing?!
