“Igloo of Books”

We talk a lot here on Freshome about bedrooms, and bookcases. Today Point Architects from Tokyo combined a bed with a bookcase and the result was called the Uroko House. The incredible bookcase completely surrounds this bed, making him looks like an igloo made of books. Here is the step by step project of how the Uroko House was created, and I’ve got these pictures from Flickr. The final results looks good, but unfortunately is not to practical, and takes a lot of space. Anyway I’m sure that little kids will still love this project.

Wow. I would love to have this igloo book case. It makes for a cool place for the bed and hiding place. You can also put various books there. My bookcase can’t hold all of my things. But it does seem to take lots of space

What do you mean, “not too practical”?
I’ve had it in my flat for a year now and it is very practical, thank you! ;-)
Bed room is super cocoony and comfy, the shelves hold all the book we have without taking any wall space and the other side holds all of our clothes.
What’s not to love about it! And indeed, I believe our kid will love it as much as we do. ;-)

I am a Saints fan from Argentina. Very nice Saints information. I think Bress will be an eventual hall-of-famer with Colston and Bush.
I hope to be in New Orleans for a game this fall.

The practicality of this bed is purely speculative: In one house this would serve as a jungle-gym for kids, but in another house it could be the single most versatile piece of furniture in the entire home. I like the principle, but I do not personally have an application for the Igloo Bed

  1. [...] The stairs bookcase was cool, but this is an entire igloo-like bookcase structure that you can actually use as a miniature dwelling. In fact, this “Uroko House” is built around a bed, which makes it one hell of a place to sleep for any kid—whether they like to read or not. There are no written instructions on how to make your own, but the images in the gallery help illustrate the process. [Flickr via Freshome] [...]
